You always wanted to be a princess or prince for one day? Then you simply have to attend one of the balls in Vienna. The season has already started in November, but most of the balls take place in January and February. The city is known for the waltz; however, dancing enthusiasts can also show their skills of other dancing styles such as boogie, cha-cha-cha and jive. Additionally, there are often discos you can go to if you want a break from classical dancing. One of the highlights of every ball is the opening ceremony, where so-called debutantes perform a choreography: the ladies dressed in white, the gentlemen in a tuxedo. Normally, there is also a midnight-quadrille, which is always a lot of fun. Don’t worry about how it works – a professional will explain what to do. As there are so many different balls taking place, we have compiled a list for you with our favourites: Zuckerbäckerball You want to combine cakes and dancing? Then the Zuckerbäckerball is the right ball for you. You can enjoy an exhibition of cakes, where you will not see normal cakes, but masterpieces of art. Moreover, you can win amazing cakes in a tombola. When?: 15.01.2014 Where?: Hofburg (Imperial Palace) Website: Zuckerbäckerball Vienna Philharmonic Ball This is a must for everybody, who loves the music of the Vienna Philharmonic. The atmosphere of the Musikverein, where the event takes place every year, adds to the distinctiveness of the ball. When?: 22.01.2015 Where?: Musikverein Website: Vienna Philharmonic Ball Vienna Coffeehouse Owner’s Ball Vienna is famous for its traditional coffeehouse. Thus, it is no wonder that there is also a ball dedicated to the popular hot beverage. When?: 06.02.2015 Where?: Hofburg (Imperial Palace) Website: Vienna Coffeehouse Owner’s Ball Bonbonball Another ball for persons with a sweet tooth. It’s all about candies. One of the highlights of this ball is the crowning of the “Miss Bonbon”, who receives her body weight of the famous “Manner Schnitten”, which she normally donates for a good cause. When?: 13.02.2015 Where?: Wiener Konzerthaus Website: Bonbonball Dress code Be aware that there is a dress code for every ball. There is some variation, but in general ladies should wear a floor length evening gown and gentlemen tails or a tuxedo. You still need a dress or tuxedo? No worries, there are various stores in Vienna, where you can get the perfect wardrobe. Our recommendations are: Balina Joppich, Store Mariahilf Mariahilfer Straße 101-103 A-1060 Vienna Website: Balina Joppich What?: dresses for ladies Peek & Cloppenburg Mariahilfer Straße 26-30 A-1060 Vienna Website: Peek & Cloppenburg What?: dresses for ladies, tuxedos for gentlemen If you don’t want to buy a dress or tuxedo/tails, you can also rent one: Kleiderverleih Rottenberg Porzellangasse 8 A-1090 Vienna Website: Kleiderverleih Rottenberg What?: dresses for ladies, tails/tuxedos for gentlemen Do you fancy a great night out?
